The Movie “Maharaja” is one of the Finest Thriller Indian Cinema has Produced
It is a spoiler free review, mostly. The movie has an unexpected climax and if anyone who isn’t familiar with Indian languages want to watch it, they can do so by using the English/Chinese or a couple of other available subtitles
My appetite for thriller movies is the same as my appetite for chilli. I can’t stomach it, but still indulge myself for the thrill of it. Consequences be damned.
So with that attitude, I ordered heavily spiced Pav Bhaji(a spicy Indian delicacy; Pav is bread and bhaji is curry) and chose to watch Maharaja for the Friday movie night.
But in Indian mythology, even God isn’t excused of the consequences. So I knew what I was getting into. But did I?
I unwrapped the foil on the just delivered box, unwrapped the Pav and liberated the lid of the container which contained the bhaji-soaking in the aroma of the spices-with a bit more force than was required which spilled the oil a bit on my plate. Nothing to worry about. Not a drop on sofa. I then broke a small piece of the bread and dipped it in the bhaji and took the first step towards the disaster that awaited me.
But it was nothing compared to what was about to hit me at the end of 150 mins after I pushed the play button. It is a 140-min movie, but I had to take a 10-min break. Nature called way too persistently.
